Reflective Thoughts

August will soon be here!  September is only to follow and than October, November, and December...the end of this century!  How ready are we as churches to move into the 21st century?  Are we truly reflective of our communities?  Who are the unchurched?  How are we intentionally reaching out to those who do not have a relationship with Jesus Christ?  Have we spent time reviewing our great past as a congregation, learning from it, making mid-course corrections, and preparing to be a dynamic, healthy, vibrant congregation as the doors open into the year 2000 and beyond?

We do indeed need to be making plans as we move into the 21st century.  It promises to be far different from the move into the 20th century.  I want to challenge you to order your board meetings, EVERY board or committee meeting, in the following way:  begin with at least 30 minutes of Bible study that deals with the call the Lord has given to the church; 45 minutes to 60 minutes of business; and, 45 minutes to 60 minutes of dreaming time...that's time spent talking about the future, talking about the challenges the Lord has placed before your church, praying for understanding and insight into the work you can do for the future.  All of this dream time  without any motions or decisions or voting...just seeking ideas, resources, and direction into the future.

Remember, my suggestion is for EVERY board or committee.  Everyone has valuable input and creativity to offer...Let's tap that tremendous talent which is around.
