Mastering the Art of Change

Let's face it: there are no simple solutions.  If there were, someone would have found them by now, and we'd all be using them...

Real change is an integrated process that unfolds over time and touches every aspect of the organization.  It is a dynamic process that requires constant revision B staffing changes, reallocation of resources, strategic shifts, structural changes, refinement of mission, articulation of values B with an overarching framework of focused objectives.  The vision, influence, and power required to create and drive that kind of change can come only from the top of the organization...

Participation by top leaders is crucial B but not sufficient B to ensuring successful change.  The successful leaders are those who build broad support among the managers who must convert a vision of change into a new reality.  The successful managers are those who understand the vision and then move adeptly and aggressively to make it happen.  Successful change starts at the top; but without active support from skilled and committed managers, it can just as easily end at the top...

Organizational change is more art than science.  But it is an art that can be learned and mastered over time; there are basic principles, specific steps, and predictable outcomes for those willing to invest the necessary insight and effort.

As we prepare to move into the 21st century, we will need to keep in mind that the world around is changing rapidly; and, I dare say in some cases not for the better, certainly not necessarily towards a Christian bend.  We must begin to explore every new possible way of intentionalizing our efforts to reach the unchurched...focusing on those who are not followers of Jesus Christ.  That will take some radical change...maybe even a new reformation in how individual churches do the work of our Lord's church...not a change in what we believe, teach and confess...but in the practices we have in operating and doing the ministry of our Lord.  Hopefully, as we move into the 21st century, we can put aside the petty arguments over some of the issues on focus our combined efforts on reaching the lost responding to Christ's Words: For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost."  Luke 19:10 and His follow up Words in John 20:21, As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.  Powerful Words of encouragement to live and share that Good News.  Make that strong commitment today!!!
